Come join us!

Do you love to sing? We would like to meet you!

Men of all ages are welcome to come and visit any Tuesday night, where you will find plenty of good music and fellowship. Wives and significant others are also welcome. You don’t need to be able to read music, and we provide free learning CDs to help you learn our music. We also provide the sheet music, vocal training, and any other assistance needed for you to succeed as a singer with us. If you like what you see and hear, we invite you to audition for the chorus. This process begins when you ask our Membership VP for a membership application.

Before you audition, we would like you to attend at least three chorus rehearsals. This gives you a chance to see if you are really interested in singing with us. After that and upon your request, we will provide you with a membership application that must be filled out completely and a CD and some music with some simple songs that can be used in preparation for your audition. The audition is broken into two parts, the voice analysis and the quartet audition.

In the voice analysis, we will discover your vocal range, tone color, pitch accuracy, and ability to harmonize. You will be asked to sing a scale, a simple song, some musical intervals and exercises, and a harmony part to a well-known melody. We will also help you determine which voice part you should sing in the chorus.

During the quartet audition, you will be asked to perform either a chorus song or one of the songs on the CD you received, in a quartet. This means you will be singing your voice part by yourself along with the other three voice parts. We do this to see how quickly and how well you learn our music, and how well you blend in as part of a singing unit.

We know that this process can be intimidating, and not everyone passes their first audition. Whether you pass or not, your audition will include tips on how you can improve your singing skills so that you can succeed at your next audition. When you are ready for your audition, we ask you to speak with our Director.

There are three levels of dues that are required for membership with us. They include dues for the Barbershop Harmony Society (BHS), Far Western District (FWD), and our own Brea Chapter. Don’t worry, you only have to write one check. These dues help our Society, district, and chapter provide the learning materials and educational programs that become available to you as a member. There are also payment plans available from the Society to help you pay your dues on a monthly basis instead of all at one time. Ask our Membership VP for more information about these payment plans.

Once you have completed your audition, admission paperwork, and paid your dues, your membership will be voted on by the Board of Directors. After that, you will be officially announced as a new member of the Gaslight Chorus.

As a new member, you will receive an official membership card, various orientation materials, a lapel pin, and two publications. The Harmonizer is the official Society publication and the Westunes is the official FWD publication. You will also begin receiving chapter emails and be given access to our chapter website.

If you ever have questions about any of the membership process, please ask our Membership VP. He will be happy to assist you.
